LEJOG Journal

Cycling Lands End to John O'Groats April 22nd 2011; 1000 miles, 10 days…will we make it?

LEJOG'er Duncan

Duncan on his prized Aeron Ridley in Belgium

Duncan is the new boy on the team, so I thought it would be good to give him chance to introduce himself…

Dunc: This is me on holiday in Belgium near Spa.

I am 20 and my friends call me Dunk. I have been mountain biking for years but I first started road riding in 2008 when I bought my Aeron (Ridley) road bike as a way of improving my fitness for mountain biking. Gradually I began to appreciate the finer points of road cycling; the camaraderie, the unwritten rules and the heroes of the sport who inspire us to keep on standing on the pedals and never give in.

I am particularly looking forward to this ride as I have never done any long distance touring before and it represents a huge challenge. To illustrate, 100 miles is only just short of the length of an average stage in the Tour de France and for us to do this back to back for 10 days is going to be a great achievement.

You can probably see that I am very passionate about cycling but if I’m not riding I am probably at Sperry Rail where I work as a C.A.D. designer. Outside of work and cycling, I enjoy tinkering with radio control, silly jokes, music and, er, also the pub!
