Training Ride – Belper to Bakewell

Evening all!

Training has been pretty good this week. Those on Twitter may have seen me sharing my post-spinning class pain on Thursday eve, very tough but a great workout…just what I need then! Had also planned to go on Friday, but as it had been a busy week and wasn’t about to get any quieter over the weekend, so I decided to spend some quality time with the missus (we were actually going to go spinning together, but we decided that probably didn’t qualify as quality time!).

Saturday brought a decent ride, though the conditions were shocking. Other than a ride a few years ago on the High Peak trail, I’ve never experienced wind like it (referring to the weather there, show some maturity!). Really did make it tough going and it has reinforced what I discussed in a previous post (End to End – up or down?) – that doing all we can to avoid weather conditions like this during the trip will be vital as I think we’re going to need all the help we can get.

Time for a break after the hills of Chatsworth

Pete and I covered 43 miles in all, from Belper to Bakewell and back via Chatsworth. I actually felt pretty good, though I ate enough Chocolate to get me to Manchester so that may have had something to do with it. I was particularly pleased with getting up Newbridge Road in Ambergate right at the end of the ride; I had a bit of a Tour de France moment when a guy pulled in to let me past parked cars and wound his window down to give me some encouragement to keep going. I think I must have been getting delirious by this stage.

Got some stuff to get sorted this week, need to make final decision on charity cause, get all the maps finally mapped out and make some enquiries about kit sponsorship. On that note, the more people we can get looking at these pages the more that sponsors will be interested, so do all you can for us Twitter and Facebook wise!

Will be back with another update later in the week, hopefully with more map links and fund raising details.

    Hi Guys

This page is excellent, Im starting my training shortly and hitting Lejog on the 1st May 2012….I stay in Inverness so prefer to start South and head North for the final days..also looking to do the trip in approx 10 days as your team had.

Some excellent information in here will be a real bonus, surprisinly the route mapping etc is not as easy as I thought….

Great charity effort by the way

    Kind Regards
